CCS
A2. Maritime safety legislation: SOLAS and its codesDefinition
Cargo Containment System under the IGC and IGF Codes.
CCS denotes the cargo containment system, the tank structure and its insulation, secondary barrier, and supporting hull interface that retains liquefied gas cargo or fuel under the IGC and IGF Codes. The IGC Code chapter 4 defines containment types including independent tanks (Type A, B, and C), membrane tanks, and integral tanks, each with distinct secondary-barrier and design-pressure rules. The IGF Code part A-1 applies parallel requirements to gas fuel tanks. SOLAS makes the IGC Code mandatory through Chapter VII part C and the IGF Code through Chapter II-1 part G, so a containment-system failure mode drives both cargo and propulsion safety assessment.
