Class Notation (Smart/Cyber)

A smart or cyber class notation is an optional descriptive suffix a classification society appends to a ship’s class entry to certify that defined digital or cyber-security functions have been verified against its rules. Examples include DNV’s Cyber Secure and Smart notations, ABS CyberSafety (CS1/CS2), Lloyd’s Register’s Cyber and Digital descriptive notes, and Bureau Veritas SYS-COM-IM. The notation signals to charterers, insurers and port states that the vessel met audited requirements for cyber resilience or smart-ship capability beyond the mandatory IACS UR E26/E27 baseline.
