Cruising Club of America

The Cruising Club of America is a US offshore-sailing club founded in 1922, with members elected for blue-water passage-making experience. It co-organizes the Newport Bermuda Race (first run 1906, roughly 635 nautical miles) with the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, and the CCA Rule it developed in the 1930s shaped American ocean-racing handicapping before the IOR. The club also issues seamanship awards and the Blue Water Medal, first awarded in 1923.
