The fleet manager is the senior shore-based executive accountable for the safe, compliant, and commercial operation of a group of ships. The role oversees the technical superintendents, the crewing function, and the ISM Code safety management system, and answers to the owner or the managing company’s board. The fleet manager is typically a former master or chief engineer with management experience.
