ISO 8666

ISO 8666 defines the principal data of small craft: the reference dimensions and measurement conventions such as length of hull, length and beam of the waterline, draft, displacement, and the loading conditions at which they are taken. ISO 12217 and the other small-craft standards reference it so that figures like waterline length are measured the same way across the fleet. Without a common datum the stability and capacity assessments under the Recreational Craft Directive would not be comparable between builders.
