Recreational Craft Directive

Directive 2013/53/EU sets the essential safety, health, environmental, and consumer-protection requirements for recreational craft of 2.5 m to 24 m hull length placed on the EU market, replacing 94/25/EC. It assigns each boat a design category A through D based on the conditions it is built to withstand, requires a builder’s plate and a Craft Identification Number, and brings personal watercraft, propulsion engines, and exhaust and noise emission limits into one framework. Conformity is shown by CE marking after the relevant assessment module.
