CE Marking, Recreational Craft Directive

F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and Sport

Definition

EU conformity mark required for craft sold in the EU.

The CE mark on a recreational craft declares conformity with Directive 2013/53/EU and its harmonized standards. The builder draws up a Declaration of Conformity, affixes the mark, fits the Craft Identification Number and builder’s plate showing the design category and maximum load and persons, and keeps a technical file. Boats above design category D, and most over 12 m, need a notified body to run the conformity-assessment module rather than self-certification. Geographic descriptors such as ocean or inshore were dropped from the categories in the 2013 recast for clearer consumer information.
