Liquefied petroleum gas carrier
C1. Commercial shipping, chartering, economics and financeDefinition
LPG carrier such as VLGC or MGC.
A liquefied petroleum gas carrier is a gas carrier built for propane, butane, and similar petroleum gases, plus ammonia and other chemical gases, under the IMO IGC Code. Containment runs from small fully pressurized ships, through semi-refrigerated, to fully refrigerated tankers carrying cargo near minus 42 degrees Celsius at atmospheric pressure. Sizes are graded as the VLGC (around 84,000 cubic meters), the large gas carrier (LGC), the midsize (MGC), and handy and pressurized vessels. LPG rates trade on the Baltic LPG (BLPG) routes, principally the US Gulf to Far East run.
