LNG carrier (LNGC)
B5. Ship Types and Individual VesselsDefinition
Membrane or Moss-type LNG carrier.
An LNG carrier transports liquefied natural gas at about minus 163 degrees Celsius and atmospheric pressure under the IGC Code, in either a membrane containment system or a self-supporting Moss spherical system. The fleet standard has settled around 174,000 cubic meters for the membrane type, with the larger Q-Flex (around 210,000 cubic meters) and Q-Max (around 266,000 cubic meters) built for the Qatari trade. Cargo boil-off is managed by using it as fuel, by reliquefaction, or both, and modern ships use dual-fuel or two-stroke gas-burning propulsion.
