Offshore Special Regulations (OSR)

F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and Sport

Definition

World Sailing offshore-race safety rules.

The World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations set the minimum safety standard for boats and crews racing offshore, graded by category 0 through 7 according to how far from shore and shelter the race goes. They prescribe the structural features, stability, watertight integrity, personal and yacht safety equipment, and crew training that each category demands, from inshore day races up to trans-ocean events. Race notices reference the relevant OSR category, and crew training such as the Sea Survival and Offshore Personal Safety courses is mandated under OSR section 6.
