Sea Survival Course
F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and SportDefinition
World Sailing-approved training under OSR 6.
The Sea Survival course is the one-day RYA and World Sailing training in surviving an abandonment at sea: liferaft deployment and boarding, lifejacket and immersion-suit use, helicopter and lifeboat rescue, hypothermia, and the use of pyrotechnics, EPIRBs, and other distress signals. Offshore racing crews must hold a current certificate to satisfy section 6 of the Offshore Special Regulations, and the qualification is part of the wider safety training expected before any ocean passage.
