Paralympic Sailing

F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and Sport

Definition

Sailing was a Paralympic sport in 1996 to 2016.

Paralympic sailing was a medal sport at the Summer Paralympic Games from Atlanta 1996 through Rio 2016, contested in the single-person 2.4mR, two-person SKUD18 and three-person Sonar keelboats. The International Paralympic Committee dropped sailing from the Tokyo 2020 program in a 2015 decision because it failed worldwide-reach criteria. World Sailing continues to run Para World Sailing championships and has campaigned for reinstatement at future Games.
