PMS
C2. Ship operations, crewing and technical managementDefinition
Planned maintenance system.
The Planned Maintenance System, the structured schedule by which a ship’s machinery and equipment are maintained at intervals set by running hours, calendar, or condition, rather than run to failure. The PMS records each task, the spares used, and the work done, feeding the technical manager’s overview and the class society’s machinery survey credit. Many ships run a class-approved PMS that lets them hold continuous machinery survey status in place of periodic open-ups.
