Technical manager

The party responsible for the technical management of a ship: maintenance, surveys and class, statutory certification, manning and the SMS, spares and stores procurement, and dry-dock planning, whether the shipowner’s in-house department or a third-party ship manager. Under BIMCO’s SHIPMAN agreement the technical manager’s duties, fees, and liability are defined separately from commercial and crew management. The technical manager holds the Document of Compliance for the ships it operates.
