International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue.
The International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue, 1979, in force from 22 June 1985, established an international framework for coordinating search-and-rescue operations and divided the world’s oceans into search-and-rescue regions, each with a responsible coastal state and rescue coordination centre. It works alongside the GMDSS distress-alerting system and the SOLAS obligation on masters to render assistance.
