Security Exercise
E1. Maritime security, geopolitics and riskDefinition
Annual multi-party exercise involving ship/port/agency.
A security exercise is the larger periodic test of a ship security plan that validates communication, coordination, resource availability, and response across the company, ship, and port facility. ISPS Code Part B paragraph 13.7 recommends that exercises be carried out at least once each calendar year, with no more than 18 months between them, and that they may take various forms: full-scale or live, tabletop simulation or seminar, or combined with other exercises. They may involve company and port facility security officers, Contracting Governments, and security agencies. Exercises are broader than the quarterly security drills.
