Walk-to-Work Gangway

E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleets

Definition

Motion-compensated gangway on SOV.

A walk-to-work gangway is a motion-compensated bridge mounted on a Service Operation Vessel or construction ship that stays level against the vessel’s roll, pitch, and heave so technicians can walk safely across to an offshore wind turbine or platform in sea states that would otherwise stop transfers. The active compensation extends the weather window for offshore maintenance, the main driver of vessel uptime on a wind farm. It pairs with DP to hold the ship steady alongside.
