Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV)

E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleets

Definition

Jack-up vessel installing wind turbines.

A Wind Turbine Installation Vessel is a self-propelled jack-up vessel that transports and erects offshore wind turbines, lifting tower sections, nacelle, and blades into place from a stable platform jacked clear of the sea. As turbines have grown past 15 MW, WTIVs have grown with them, needing greater crane height, deck strength, and leg length for deeper water. They are distinguished from floating wind installation vessels, which set moored floating foundations rather than seabed monopiles.
