Race Officer
F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and SportDefinition
World Sailing certified race official.
A race officer runs the race itself: setting the course, signaling the warning and starting sequence, judging the line, recording finishes, and shortening or abandoning when wind or safety demand. World Sailing certifies International and National Race Officers against a logbook of events and an assessment, distinct from the judges who hear protests and the umpires who call rules on the water in fleet and match racing. The principal race officer answers to the organizing authority named in the notice of race.
