E1. Maritime security, geopolitics and risk

Definition

Document evidencing ISPS compliance.

The International Ship Security Certificate is the document evidencing that a ship complies with SOLAS Chapter XI-2 and the ISPS Code and operates an approved ship security plan. SOLAS XI-2 Regulation 9 and ISPS Code Part A Section 19 govern it: the flag administration or an authorized recognized security organization issues it for a period up to five years, subject to at least one intermediate verification between the second and third anniversary. An Interim ISSC under Section 19.4, valid up to six months, covers new ships, change of flag, or change of company while full verification is arranged.
