Notice of Race

F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and Sport

Definition

Document issued by an organizing authority for a regatta.

The notice of race is the founding document an organizing authority issues for a regatta, telling competitors what they are entering before they decide to compete. It states the rules that apply, eligibility and entry, the classes and any rating or measurement requirement, the schedule, the scoring system, and any prescribed safety category under the Offshore Special Regulations. The sailing instructions issued later govern the conduct of the racing itself; where the two conflict the notice of race ordinarily prevails on entry matters.
