OPC UA
E3. Technology, digitalization and smart shippingDefinition
Industrial interoperability standard used in shipboard automation.
OPC UA (OPC Unified Architecture) is a platform-independent, service-oriented machine-to-machine communication standard for industrial automation, standardized as IEC 62541 and maintained by the OPC Foundation; it was released in 2008. It combines a data-access model, an information model, security, and transport mappings so controllers, sensors, and software from different vendors interoperate without custom drivers. In shipboard automation it links integrated automation systems, the ISO 19847 data server, and shore analytics, providing built-in authentication and encryption that supports the OT-cyber requirements of IEC 62443 and IACS UR E26/E27.
