RightShip GHG Rating

X40. Tanker Vetting, SIRE and VIQ

Definition

A vessel greenhouse-gas efficiency rating from A to G, calculated from design data and used by charterers in tonnage selection.

The RightShip GHG Rating scores a ship’s design carbon efficiency on an A to G scale by comparing its capacity-and-speed-based efficiency to peers of the same type and size, drawing on the ship’s technical particulars. Charterers, particularly dry-bulk cargo owners, use it alongside RightShip’s safety vetting to select tonnage and to set chartering preferences, so a poor rating can reduce a ship’s commercial appeal. It is a commercial vetting metric, distinct from the regulatory EEDI, EEXI, and operational CII, though it draws on similar efficiency concepts.
