- VHF DSC Controller
- Module compliant with ITU-R M.493-15 integrated in marine VHFs.
- VHF Radio
- Maritime VHF in the 156 to 174 MHz band per ITU Appendix 18.
- Virtual AIS AtoN
- AIS Message 21 broadcast representing an aid that does not physically exist, used to mark new wrecks or hazards.

- Watch Circle
- Permitted area within which a moored buoy may swing under tide and wind.
- Watch Receiver
- DSC receiver that monitors Channel 70, 2187.5 kHz and HF DSC frequencies.
- WGS-84
- World Geodetic System 1984, GNSS datum.
- Wreck Marking Buoy
- Emergency buoy marking a new danger under IALA.
- WWNWS
- Worldwide Navigational Warning Service, jointly run by IMO and IHO with 21 NAVAREAs.

- X Topmark
- Yellow St Andrew's cross identifying a special mark.
- X-band
- 8 to 12 GHz radar band (9.2 to 9.5 GHz for marine radar and Racons).
Y
- Yellow Special Mark
- All-yellow IALA buoy or beacon used for non-navigational purposes (cables, spoil, ODAS, military).
Z
- Zone of Confidence (ZOC)
- Chart quality indicator (A1, A2, B, C, D, U) per IHO S-67 used on ENCs.
- Zulu Time
- Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), the navigation reference.
