The offshore-wind installation-vessel vocabulary: the installation contractors and their corporate lineage (A2SEA into Cadeler), the X-Bow walk-to-work SOVs (Acta Auriga), the Ulstein designs, and the foundation and turbine-installation terms. A2SEA: Former Danish offshore wind installation contractor whose fleet, including Sea Installer and Sea Challenger, was acquired by DEME Offshore in 2017.
Acta Auriga: Walk-to-work service operation vessel owned by Acta Marine, delivered in 2018 with an Ampelmann gangway and DP2 station keeping for North Sea wind farm support.
Acta Centaurus: Acta Marine W2W SOV delivered in 2019, sister to Acta Auriga, deployed on Borssele and Hollandse Kust wind farm O&M campaigns.
Acta Marine: Den Helder based Dutch shipowner operating a fleet of walk-to-work vessels, multicats, and CTVs serving North Sea offshore wind operations.

Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm: 588 MW Scottish wind farm in the Moray Firth developed by SSE Renewables and commissioned in 2019, notable for jacket foundations.
Belwind: Belgian offshore wind farm developed by Parkwind off the Bligh Bank.
Bibby Wavemaster: Service operation vessel class operated by Bibby Marine for offshore wind maintenance.
Blade: Aerodynamic rotor element of a wind turbine, manufactured from fiberglass and epoxy composites and reaching over 115 m on the largest offshore models.
Block Island Wind Farm: First US offshore wind farm, a 30 MW project off Rhode Island developed by Deepwater Wind and commissioned in 2016.
Blue Tern: Cadeler X-class wind turbine installation vessel, originally part of the Swire Blue Ocean fleet.
BOEM: US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management; offshore leasing and resource evaluation.
Bokalift 1: Boskalis heavy lift crane vessel, a converted bulk carrier with a 3,000 t Huisman crane used for foundation and offshore substation installation.

Cable Burial Risk Assessment: Engineering study determining target burial depth for subsea cables based on seabed soils, hazards, and protection requirements, commonly abbreviated CBRA.
Cable Pulling Head: Specialized end-fitting attached to a submarine cable to enable winching and pull-in through J-tubes and platform structures.
Cadeler: Danish offshore wind installation contractor formed from the demerger of Swire Blue Ocean, operating the Wind Orca, Wind Osprey, Bold Tern, Brave Tern, and Blue Tern.
Capacity factor: Ratio of actual annual energy production to the maximum possible if a turbine operated at rated power continuously.
Cape Holland: Dutch supplier of vibratory hammers and gripper frames used for monopile pre-piling and installation.
CFD: Computational fluid dynamics used for offshore structure hydrodynamic loading.
Charybdis: First Jones Act compliant US-flag wind turbine installation vessel, built by Keppel AmFELS for Dominion Energy.
CMB.TECH: Belgian shipowner subsidiary of Compagnie Maritime Belge developing hydrogen-powered vessels including the Hydrocat 48 CTV.

Edda Mistral: Edda Wind SOV delivered in 2018, operated under long term charter to North Sea wind farm clients.

Floating Foundation: Buoyant substructure such as a spar, semi-submersible, or tension leg platform that supports a wind turbine in waters too deep for fixed bottom foundations.
Formosa 1: Taiwanese offshore wind farm developed by Macquarie, Swancor, and JERA, marking the first commercial offshore wind project in Taiwan.
Formosa 2: 376 MW Taiwanese offshore wind farm developed by JERA, Macquarie, and Swancor.
Foundation: Substructure transferring loads from the wind turbine to the seabed, including monopile, jacket, gravity base, and floating types.
Fred Olsen Windcarrier: Former owner of Bold Tern, Brave Tern, and other jack-up vessels, since reorganized under Cadeler.

GBF: Gravity Base Foundation, a concrete or steel-concrete substructure that resists overturning by its self-weight on prepared seabed.
GE Haliade-X: Offshore wind turbine platform from GE Vernova with rated capacities up to 14 MW deployed at Dogger Bank and elsewhere.
GeoSea: Former offshore renewables brand within DEME Group, now operating as DEME Offshore.
Gode Wind 1: 330 MW German North Sea offshore wind farm developed by Ørsted.

Helideck: Flight deck on surface combatant sized for embarked helicopter.
Hellenic Cables: supplier of shore-power cabling used in cold-ironing installations.

Jack-Up Vessel: Self-elevating installation vessel with retractable legs that lifts its hull above the sea surface, the dominant platform for turbine erection.
Jacket foundation: Tubular steel lattice substructure pinned to the seabed, used at Beatrice, Wikinger, East Anglia ONE, and others.
Jan De Nul Group: Belgian marine contractor operating WTIV Voltaire, floating heavy-lift vessel Les Alizes, and cable lay vessels Isaac Newton, Connector, and Willem de Vlamingh.
JERA: Japanese power generation joint venture between TEPCO and Chubu Electric, one of the largest LNG buyers in the world.

Thialf: Heerema semi submersible crane vessel with twin 7,100 t cranes, used on offshore substation and foundation installation.
TLP: Tension Leg Platform, a floating foundation tethered to the seabed by vertical tendons under tension, used in concepts such as X1 Wind PivotBuoy.
Tower: Tubular steel structure mounted on the foundation that supports the nacelle and rotor at hub height.
Trenching: Process of burying subsea cables using ploughs, jet trenchers, or mechanical cutters to a target depth typically 1 to 3 m below seabed.
Tripile Foundation: Three-pile foundation with a transition piece, used in limited German projects.
Tripod foundation: Three legged steel substructure used at certain North Sea projects including Alpha Ventus.
Triton Knoll: 857 MW UK offshore wind farm developed by RWE and partners and commissioned in 2021.
Turbine Generator: Generator within the wind turbine nacelle, commonly a permanent magnet synchronous machine on modern offshore platforms.
