- The port- or terminal-issued information pack consulted under VIQ Chapters 4 and 8.
- Terminal Vetting
- Screening conducted by a terminal operator separate from any cargo-owner screening.
- Tier 1 Oil Major
- Industry shorthand for the largest international oil majors with the most rigorous vetting requirements.
- TMSA
- Tanker Management and Self-Assessment, OCIMF self-assessment tool, current edition TMSA 3.
- TMSA 3
- The third edition of the TMSA framework, published in 2017.
- TotalEnergies Vetting
- The vessel screening function of TotalEnergies SE, formerly Total S.A., a founding OCIMF member.
- Trading History
- The vessel's record of past trades, voyages, and cargoes, reflected in the Q88 and reviewed by vetting analysts.
- Trading Pattern Restriction
- A charterer rule limiting acceptance based on prior calls at sanctioned or high-risk ports.

- UKAS Accredited Class
- A classification society accredited under the UK Accreditation Service, occasionally referenced as a quality indicator.
- Unscheduled Inspection
- A SIRE inspection raised at short notice, for example in response to an incident or trading change.
- Updated VIQ
- A revision of the VIQ issued by OCIMF, identified by edition number such as VIQ7.

- Validity period
- 5 years for most STCW CoCs and CoPs under Regulation I/11.
- Vessel Inspection Questionnaire
- VIQ, the OCIMF questionnaire used in SIRE 1.0 inspections, current edition VIQ7.
- Vessel Particulars Questionnaire
- The standardized record of vessel dimensions, capacities, equipment, and operational data, typically maintained in Q88 format.
- Vetting Acceptance
- The favorable outcome of a charterer's screening process.
- Vetting Clearance
- A formal statement from a vetting department that a vessel is approved for a specific use.
- Vetting Coordinator
- The operator-side role responsible for managing vetting interactions across the fleet.
- Vetting Department
- The internal function within a charterer that operates the vetting process.
- Vetting Performance Indicator
- A TMSA Element 7 metric describing the operator's vetting acceptance rate and observation profile.
- Vetting Rejection
- An unfavorable screening outcome under which a vessel is not approved for the proposed employment.
