Intermodal Heavy Cargo: Project cargo moving across road, rail, and sea on the same journey.
Internal Loadout: Loading of cargo from a quay into a vessel's hold using ship or shore equipment.
ISO Tank: Common industry term for a UN portable tank built to ISO 1496/3.
Issued For Construction Drawing: Final engineering drawing released to enable site construction and rigging.

Jack and Pack: Lift method using hydraulic jacks and cribbing to raise a load incrementally.
Jacking Tower: Frame of stackable modules within which strand jacks lift a project unit.
Jackup Rig Deck: Topside module of a jackup drilling rig, frequently moved as a project unit.
Jamnagar: Indian port city in Gujarat with significant LPG import and refining infrastructure, served by VLGCs and MGCs.
Jazan Refinery: Saudi Aramco refinery project with major heavy lift and modular cargo movements.
Jib Extension: Auxiliary boom fitted to a crane to increase reach at reduced capacity.
Job Hazard Analysis (JHA): Task level safety analysis used on each phase of a project lift or move.
Joint Engineering Review: Meeting at which forwarder, carrier, and client align on lift and transport details.
Joint Inspection: Survey attended jointly by buyer, seller, and independent surveyor.
Jumbo Project Cargo: Industry term for items exceeding standard heavy lift envelopes.

Lashing Plan: Drawing showing lashing arrangement, included in CSM.
Lattice Boom Crane: Crane with a trussed boom, the dominant type for very heavy lifts.
Launch Beam: Beam used to launch a bridge segment from one pier to the next.

Lifting Lug: Cast or welded fitting on pumps and machinery for crane handling.
Liner Out Free In (LIFO): Term where carrier covers loading and shipper covers discharge of project cargo.
Liquid Helium Tank Lift: Cryogenic vessel transport requiring controlled tilt and shock limits.
LLM Liner Lift Module: Industry term for liner modules forming part of a project plant package.
LNG Plant Module: Prefabricated process module for liquefied natural gas facilities, often above 5,000 tonnes.
Load Cell: Sensor measuring force in a sling or jack during a critical lift.
Load Distribution Beam: Beam under a project unit that spreads its weight to multiple trailer rows.
Load Test Certificate: Document evidencing proof load on cranes and lifting gear.
Loading Master: Person directing the loading and securing of cargo aboard a heavy lift vessel.
Loading Sequence Plan: Document setting the order and timing of each lift during vessel loading.
LogProject Network (LPN): Independent project forwarder cooperation network.
LoLo Heavy Lift: Lift on lift off heavy cargo operation using ship's gear or shore crane.
Long Tonne Heavy Cargo: 2,240 pound tonne occasionally used for heavy cargo statements alongside metric.
Loop Sling: Endless soft sling used in basket or choker hitches on project lifts.
Loose Gear: Slings, shackles, and accessories used between hook and load on a project lift.
Lowbed Trailer: Trailer with a low deck between gooseneck and rear bogie for tall loads.

Net Charter Rate: Vessel hire rate after deduction of agreed commissions and rebates.
Nicolas Industrie: French manufacturer of heavy modular trailers and the Tractomas heavy hauler.
Nicolas Tractomas TR10: Heavy haul tractor unit built by Nicolas Industrie for very high tow forces.
Nordex: Wind turbine OEM whose project cargo includes nacelles, hubs, and blades.
Notice Of Apparent Good Order: Statement that project cargo has been received without visible damage.
Notification of Readiness Project: Statement that a vessel or trailer is ready to load or move project cargo.
NSPI Lifting Frame: Heavy lifting frame originally developed by NSPI, used in module setting work.
NVOCC Project: Non-vessel operating common carrier specializing in project and oversize cargo bookings.

Ocean Engineering Heavy Lift: Discipline combining naval architecture and rigging for sea transport of project units.
Off-hire survey: Joint survey at redelivery.
Offshore Wind Foundation: Monopile, jacket, or floater foundation transported and installed as a project unit.
Offshore Wind Tower: Tubular tower for an offshore turbine, often delivered in two or three sections.
Oil Rig Module: Process or accommodation module fabricated for offshore drilling or production units.
On-Hire Survey: Joint survey at delivery into time charter recording condition and bunkers.
Onboard Lashing: Securing of project cargo to a vessel using chains, wires, and turnbuckles.
OOG Cargo: Out of gauge cargo exceeding standard container or trailer dimensions.
Open top container: Container with removable tarpaulin roof.
Operations Manual Heavy Lift: Carrier manual describing approved heavy lift procedures and limits.
Outrigger Pad: Steel or composite pad placed under crane outriggers to distribute load.
Overhang Lift: Lift where the load extends significantly beyond the trailer or vessel deck edge.
Overhead Line Crossing: Section of a haul route where the load passes under or near energized lines.
Oversize Vessel Stowage: Stowage arrangement allowing cargo wider than the hatch opening on deck.

Pad Eye: Welded plate with hole forming a lashing point.

Structural Engineer Heavy Lift: Engineer responsible for structural integrity of cargo and supports during a lift.
Stuffing Heavy Cargo: Loading of project items into containers under engineering supervision.
Submerged Loading: Loading by submerging a semi-submersible heavy lift vessel under a floating module.
Substation Module: Prefabricated electrical substation transported as one or more project units.
Subsupplier Coordination: Forwarder management of multiple fabricator deliveries into a single project program.
Superlift Counterweight: Movable counterweight attached to heavy crawler cranes to extend lift capacity.
